E. CARRINGTON AND COLLEEN SMITH HOUSE
1938
Two-story, frame Colonial Revival with a pedimented entrance surround, blind fanlight and sidelights around the door, plain wood siding, eight-over-twelve and eight-over-eight window sash, and large central brick chimney. Built for E. Carrington and Coleen Smith. Smith was manager of the Carolina Theater in downtown Chapel Hill.

The building appears unaltered since the 1993 survey, though it is difficult to discern whether the two-story wing at the right rear (southwest) was present then, as it was not visible in photographs. The building is three bays wide and double-pile with eight-over-twelve windows on the first story, eight-over-eight windows on the second story, and tripartite windows with eight-over-eight windows flanked by four-over-four windows in each gable. The eight-panel door, centered on the façade, has four-light-over-one-panel sidelights and a pedimented surround with fluted pilasters and is accessed by an uncovered brick stoop. A two-story, gabled wing at the right rear has a screened porch at the first story and paired casement windows at the second story. A low stone wall extends along the front of the property and the driveway. County tax records date the building to 1942; it is not present on the 1932 Sanborn map, but does appear on the 1949 Sanborn map.

In the 2013 survey, this was deemed a Contributing Building.
